Review: Hollywood runs out of ideas for summer? processing, sequels, prequels and reboots now appears to being the order of the day. What is difficult to imagine why anyone thinks a remake of Endless Love was necessary in the first place. Film 1981 with the same name? based on the juicy but well-regarded novels Scott Spencer? it was not even that good to begin with. At least that version of the story had the honor of involve young, nubile Brooke Shields, not to mention that the title track became more famous than the film itself. This new version can be both very bland and painfully melodramatic, bleeding from almost any hint of disagreement or the true complexity and darkness.Jade Butterfield (Gabriella Wilde) is the quintessential poor little rich girl: beautiful blond princess on ice, which closed in with her parents, Hugh (Bruce Greenwood) and Anne (Joely Richardson), after the early death of her brother Chris. David (Alex Pettyfer) is a child of the poorer parts of town, which took a crush on her school. She is associated with high school, he just wants to work in their father (Robert Patrick) workshop. When you finally connect, sparks and Jade begins to reconsider safe, perfect future it is planned Hugh.Its very cookie-cutter high school romantic melodrama. Nothing about this film feels particularly fresh or intelligent, but is expected to start a little better than you expect. However, after the initial meet-cute between Jade and decisively defeated David goes down Endless Love quickly start predictability Hugh doing everything in their power to get rid of David, but the spark of love and lust between the star crossed several burns so warm and bright that nothing will stand in their way.Whats frustrating is that the film was almost completely cut out anything even remotely complex about his story and the characters. 1981 movie can be a bit scary and soap, but at least a stab in the dark psychological, suggesting that the infinite love of the title boundaries more frightening obsession harm than sweet, romantic love. There is no such suggestion here, David is upset, but ultimately noble; Jade is a pure, real love; and his curmudgeonly Hugh, who need to understand fault of his cast ways.The is watchable but not really memorable. Pettyfer ponders how he knows that he is destined for better things. Wilde effort, often strikingly beautiful, but do not have much to offer beyond that. Greenwood is most natural to chew? He practically invisible spinning mustache and cackles in some places? but its Richardson, who runs away with a few movies, affecting moment (although her character loses much of its value wstrzÄ…sóww morphing into archetypal loyal, loving housewife). One would think that in case of exceeding the landscape of film remakes that these films? minimum? have something interesting to say about the times we live. They can bring the matter to their existence, perhaps, being a little sharper than the original film: explain why it needs to retell the old story. Endless Love not quite made it. Instead, by give up from the depths and darkness of Schmaltz and moods, it ends up even safer and sweeter than the film made over thirty years ago.
