Review: How in the world did this movie get green lighted??? Like most modern movies made today, this is just as bad as most of them. The plot doesnt make sense, nor the acting. But worse are the improbabilities. At least TRY to make a movie of this ilk somewhat believable. I guess this is what they call a fantasy, science fiction type movie....but it doesnt work. Despite all the gun shooting everywhere and the typical car chases, WHERE ARE THE POLICE?? Despite all the punches, falls and cars going over bridges and landing upside down, TWO BAD GUYS GET UP AND RUN TO THE METRO TO CATCH THE KEVIN COSTNER CHARACTER. What? Keven himself gets all punched, bruised and beaten, yet in the next scene, THE SAME NIGHT, two of them are dressed up and not a scratch or buries on them!!! WHAT? If this were a cartoon, maybe, but this is supposed to be realistic. Or as I stated above, a fantasy. Then it would work, although I dont think this was meant to be a sic-fi or fantasy. I really dont know what the writers had in mind for this miss-mash. Even the acting suffers, but of course since the actors have nothing to act. Why cant more movies be made like a good old fashion thriller like Hitchcock used to make or a good Agatha Christie movie. I guess movies like that are passé...what a pity.

Review: I went into Tusk with some worry and reservation.I consider myself a fairly big Kevin Smith fan. Particularly admiring his films Chasing Amy, Dogma and Red State. And I think the (fairly recent) backlash against Smith is unwarranted for the most part. His films have always been unique and had a flavor all their own. And the man himself has always been open, candid and participatory with his fanbase. (Heck, this films production was decided by his Twitter followers.) I just dont see why, in the past year or so, an increasingly vocal portion of the internet has turned against him.But I wasnt sure what to make of this new film. Knowing it was inspired by an episode of his podcast left me worried it would be one-note. Knowing it was his first real foray into the world of body horror (a sub-genre that is incredible when done well, but laughable when done poorly) left me worried it might not quite work. And knowing full-well of its ludicrous premise left me worried it would either be too restrained or go way too far. I was worried this might be the first Smith film that I just couldnt get behind or even like. (And yeah, I even kinda dug Jersey Girl, albeit admitting it was flawed.)But boy, was I wrong. While its definitely far from perfect, and far from being his best work, Tusk represents a bizarre, hellish and hilarious thrill-ride that left me constantly gasping and laughing. Its a terrifying fun-house ride and a twisted clown show that should please Smith fans and horror/comedy audiences looking for their fix of weird.Justin Long stars as Wallace Bryton, an American pod-caster who savagely makes fun of people in popular viral videos with his co-host. (Haley Joel Osment) When his trip to Canada goes wrong, and he discovers the subject of an interview he had scheduled has passed away, he attempts to salvage the journey by finding someone new to talk to for the show. He stumbles upon an open letter from Howard Howe (Michael Parks), a reclusive old man seeking someone to share his lifetimes worth of stories with.However, Wallace soon discovers Howe has an ulterior motive. Obsessed with a hatred of humanity and an idolization of a wild walrus he had befriended while at sea, Howe wishes to use surgical means to transform Wallace into the animal friend he had known years ago. As Howe slowly begins to alter Wallaces body into a grotesque new form (while mentally conditioning him to embrace his wild side), Wallaces girlfriend Ally (Genesis Rodriguez) begins a desperate struggle to find Wallace and save him from his demented captor.The acting is excellent all around, but Parks steals the show. Howe is equally charming, amusing and perfectly over- the-top, while also still able to be threatening. As weird as it is to say, I could see Parks winning some major awards for the role. Long is fantastic as Wallace. Though undeniably unlikeable, you still feel for him, and get a sense that beneath his cruel exterior, theres a fragile soul. And his role as the transforming Wallace/Walrus is just a hoot to watch. Rodriguez and Osment ground the film perfectly, giving wonderful weight to their smaller roles.The only actor I cannot really comment on is the well-known and even mythical guest-star who shall go unnamed, to save the surprise. But what I can say is that this guest-role will definitely leave audiences polarized, as its VERY out there. But I felt that, within the context of the film, it worked. The movie is quite zany on its own during the second half, and I think this character did a good job ushering in the audience to the films true craziness when he showed up. And he supplied PLENTY of laughs.Smiths work on the film is an undeniable sign of growth as a storyteller. His script is tight, concise and full of great moments of shock and hilarity. And I found this to be by far his most visually striking work. Smith often used to sort-of belittle his own skills as a director and visual storyteller. Review: Went to see it with my brother. With the age difference between us we both loved the movie for different reasons. For me it was superb. Its amazing to see how lego people in a world made by lego, live and interact with each other. There were some funny moments for kids and even some moments for adults too. Overall it is a very enjoyable movie and it is sure to remind you of your childhood. I recommend it to anyone who has ever played with any form of lego whatsoever. Youd be surprised to see how relevant this movie will feel. I think all people from all ages can find something in this movie that will warm their heart. A timeless classic for sure.

Review: Hats off to Liam Neeson for some outstanding performances in a host of films which i rate very highly (This guy is class so theres no need for me to list out the endless list of films hes aced in), this unfortunately is not one of those. - Its a low budget film - There are no other actors anywhere near Liams class - Liams own performance is compromised by a poor script, - The plot is pretty one dimensional, again the support cast were so poor there is little hope. Every actor is given a pass to cash in on their name for a quick buck (and im pretty sure this film didnt take too long to shoot), but please dont do it again in a hurry! I cannot understand the overall rating of 6.9 when i wrote my review, so i felt compelled to put my opinion forward.

Review: I honestly think this film is overrated. Dont get me wrong. Fantastic acting. Definitely I think Chiwetel and Michael Fassbender are Oscar worthy. Would be surprised to not see them nominated. I even really enjoyed Paul Danos small part in the film. Lupito was also good, but I wasnt as wowed with her as I was with the others. Plus, I think Brad Pitt was the worst of the bunch. Ive liked him in other movies, but he was the weak link here and felt out of place.I also didnt care much for Steve McQueens directing choice. Like, he would use these really long shots of Chitwetels face or example. Not doing anything but breathing. Some people might like that artsy stuff...but I just wanted to get on with the program already. Also the film just feels really long. Its only around 2 hours and 10 min long. But it felt like 3. And I realize that slavery was absolutely brutal but I just personally felt like the film was trying to much to make you cry and grab you by the heart. And I just didnt feel that way. And Im not some robot. I cry a lot at movies. Last thing I didnt like, aging Solomon (Chiwetel). They add some grey to his hair to signify that 12 years had past. But did absolutely nothing else. He still looked the same. Plus, I dont even feel like the movie adequately showed that 12 years had gone by (except for the title, and at the end of the movie, his kids are grown up). I felt like there was no sense of time in the movie. It seemed like the events only took place over a year. None of the other characters aged either.But those were my main problems with it. Otherwise, its a pretty decent flick and should be checked out at least for the performances.

Millers brilliance isnt in things he chooses to show, but in the things he chooses not to. He draws out scenes that offer so much to the narrative. Theres still so much left on the table that we do not know, which in itself, is perfectly acceptable. Life never gives us all the answers we seek. Miller, Futterman, and Frye understand this. Material like this calls to be made into a film. Im so glad that these three answered the call.What Steve Carell achieves as John DuPont is not just a performance by a full embodiment. With strength and precision, he understands DuPont, a man with an extreme outlook on reality. Carell doesnt just ask us to sympathize with John, between his awkward behavior and his constant yearning to impress his familys legacy, he demands our understanding. If I didnt already know about the film for the past two years, I wouldnt have recognized him. His performance is completely focused and profound. Looking at the way he carries himself through the film, you are witnessing one of the purest creations of a character this year. When hes not on-screen, youre secretly wishing he was.When it comes to Channing Tatum, I have to admit that I never FULLY understood the appeal. Discovered the young ferocious actor in Dito Montiels A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints nearly a decade ago, and afterwards was only mildly entertained by his presence in films like 21 Jump Street and Side Effects. What he does in Millers film is something beyond anything I could have ever thought he could do. Tatum doesnt just do an imitation, he channels the inner workings of a man desperate for more. His peculiarities are richly on display as he yearns for a father figure outside of the shadow of his more successful brother. He embraces the odd DuPont, against all logical instincts, but you can see exactly why he would feel so compelled to do so. Mark Ruffalo gives Dave the ticks and beats of an original creation. Picking at his beard (something I know all too well), constantly engaging in team leadership, and hugging his younger brother whose more of a son than anything. Ruffalo mounts himself on the perch of a loving brother just trying to create success for himself and his family. This is another solid outing for him. Co-star Vanessa Redgrave, as Johns fragile mother, is marvelous in her short scenes while Sienna Miller adds a needed dynamic to understanding both Mark and Dave. The two women both offer compassion and balance.Foxcatcher is terrifying, disturbing, and utterly engaging. A slowly unraveled piece that is risky but pays off immensely. Its cautious yet strictly well-defined as a character study. Like all great films with great performances, its element of truth is plainly apparent. On the gray-skied farm, we will get to know three interesting men, some of which, well never truly understand.

Review: THIRD PERSON: Three and a Half Stars (Out of Five) Paul Haggis wrote and directed this dark drama flick about three interlocking love stories; reminiscent to the storytelling style he used in the award winning 2005 film CRASH. The stories revolve around a writer and his mistress, a mother who was accused of abusing her child and an American who falls for a Romanian woman, while taking a business trip in Italy. The all-star cast includes Liam Neeson, Mila Kunis, Adrien Brody, Olivia Wilde, James Franco, Moran Atias, Loan Chabanol, Maria Bello and Kim Basinger. I found the story to be a little too dark and underdeveloped but still interesting enough.Neeson plays Michael, a writer who lives in Paris and recently left his wife, Elaine (Basinger), for another woman, named Anna (Wilde). Kunis plays Julia, a mother in New York who was recently accused of trying to kill her son. Franco plays her ex, Rick, who is trying to keep custody of their child away from Julia (due to the accusation). Brody plays Scott, an American businessman traveling in Italy who falls for a Romanian beauty, named Monika (Atias). Monikas daughter was kidnapped by a Russian gangster, named Marco (Riccardo Scamarcio), and Scott tries to help Monika get her back.The stories all deal with a common theme of children and poor parenting (in some way). They dont all really intersect (some do briefly) but there is a nice twist at the end that helps explain why theyre all related. A lot of the details of the film, and the ending, are very vague and some of the characters are pretty underdeveloped. Its definitely not nearly as well made as CRASH, or some of Haggiss other movies, but it is interesting and entertaining (especially for a film thats 2 hours and 17 minutes long). Review: If you liked Insidious, than this is a must watch. As opposed to a movie focusing on the doll Annabelle like Childs Play does with Chucky, this movie steers to the evil behind the doll. Good Decision. Props to the director for this. What really impressed me was how I could say this movie belongs up in the category of Insidious for the many creepy scenes. There were some laughs, and some jump stomach aching inducing scenes. I dont know who the director of this movie is, but when I do I will keep my eyes open to See what else he contributes. 2014 was a good year for horror movies. First Tusk, and now Annabelle.

When he faints in his trailer, he is sent to the hospital where Dr. Sevard (Denis OHare) and Dr. Eve (Jennifer Garner) tell him that he is HIV+ and will die within thirty days. Ron also meets the travesty Rayon (Jared Leto) that is drug addicted that also has the disease. Ron does not accept the diagnosis since he is not homosexual but a couple of days later he realizes that the diagnosis may be accurate. He researches about the disease and learns that AZT might be lethal for infected people. Further, he discovers that in Mexico there is a doctor with revoked license named Vass (Griffin Dunne) that uses alternative drugs in the treatment of AIDS. Ron improves his healthy and decides to sell the drugs in Dallas. He makes a partnership with Rayon and soon he creates the Dallas Buyers Club, where the memberships pay four hundred dollars per month to have the necessary drugs. But the FDA does not accept his research and he is oppressed by the authorities. Dallas Buyers Club is a great movie based on the true story of a terminal man infected by HIV+ that fights against the system to prolong his and his clients lives using drugs not accepted by the FDA. Matthew McConaughey deserves his Oscar and it is impossible to recognize Jared Leto, also awarded with an Oscar. The story also denounces the participation of the pharmaceutical industry and doctors in the United States of America using unethical procedures to test and sell their drugs. Review: Here we are with Wes Andersons latest film, The Grand Budapest Hotel, which once again excels in everything Anderson knows best by delivering another kind of film. This movie combines early comedy slapstick and hijinks with that Anderson dry humor and melancholy along with the requisite great cast, performances, and set design to make this one of his best films easily.Good: I love the whole cast. Ralph Fiennes as Gustave is amazing and he is one of the best lead roles in an Anderson movie to date. Newcomer Tony Revolori easily keeps up with Fiennes doing a fantastic job. Everyone else from Norton to Ronan are fantastic. The set design and cinematography are magnificent as usual with great scenery and cool children book style backgrounds. The comedy hits every time and it even packs some surprises to with a great murder mystery that gels with a road film. Theres even some sweetness underneath the zaniness giving it some surprising depth to it.Overall, its definitely one of my favorites of his movies and further cementing him as a great voice in movies today.

Review: Now the professional reviewers seemed to pan this before it had any chance. In some ways it happened to the prequel also. As a fan of the prequel I was willing to give this the benefit of the doubt. Im happy I did but its not a patch on the original.We have here a film that focuses on another clan of Greek fighters battling against Xerxes men, except this time its on warships, so its really 300 on the Sea. Some old faces but the opposing captains of our sides this time are the wonderful Eva Green and the less convincing Sullivan Stapleton.The film is wall to wall action and youll be enthralled. Its even more violent than the first. The bad thing is that the dialogue is really poor and the story not as riveting, engrossing and rousing as the first. Say what you like but theres a lot of wonderful points in the first that is what has made it a cult favourite.If anything the flaws of this highlight just what was best in the old one. The lead aint no patch on Gerald Butler and is outshone by Eva Green as the temptress Persian battle queen. In fairness to our new lead, he is purposely more human than the old King Leonidas, and is a great warrior without the Spartan attitude. Yet that misses out what was quite a strong point of the previous film.In many way its a paint by numbers sequel as such (although the timeframe of the film mostly parallels that of the first). If you enjoyed the first and and want more then youll find it here. For everyone else, probably you wont miss much if you let this one pass by. For me as a fan of the original, it was fair enough but not in the same league as the first.
